Boracay : Real Coffee

This is one of the things people are raving about in Boracay.
Real Coffee's Calamansi muffin.
And so I read, that this can be addicting or so.

The place is at Station 1 and I have missed it a couple of times. Imagine that! Honestly, I wasn't even able to taste the famous milkshake because I CAN'T FIND IT! >.< Anyway, they have a small sign to direct you to the place.

The place reminds me of a "Bahay Kubo" or a Beach Hut.

It's so I dunno laid back or something.

The place is mostly made of bamboo. So it's kinda cool.

The kitchen, where the all the baking happens. Cool huh!

Menu

As for the muffin...its like lemon cupcake/muffin but the hint of calamansi stays in your tongue. For 40php not bad. But nothing really special at all. But I suppose it does go well with coffee.

Boracay Day 2: The Market

On our frugal attempt, we opted to visit the D'Talipapa to buy some fresh catch of the day.
1) They are quite expensive and the price is monopolized. Imagine that the raw chicken is more expensive than the roasted chicken being sold near the villa. The seafood choices are expensive as well. Crabs are being sold 450-500++ php per kilo. That's why I have mentioned on my first post that if you want seafood you will need to buy from Kalibo or Caticlan first. Kalibo sells 250 php per kilo for crabs. So If you plan to bring home some back to Manila, you might want to do this after your beach trip.

Very well organized. But encounterd few rude sellers like the chicken seller.  Must have started his day bad.

Huge prawns.

Huge Pacific Lobsters

Surrounded by souvenir shops, and expensive clothes (ranges from 400-800php) and shirts for bargain 2 for 160-180php

Then in the afternoon it was time to hit the beach again.

In the evening, it was time to go around again and look for a nice dinner.
There are lots of restaurants to choose from. But of course we wanted a taste of fresh sea food and I am still in the look out to be on a budget.

You can even land on a free dinner buffet c/o Astoria Boracay! Which we  declined because we had to listen for some 90 minutes or so. =))

Sorry for the blur... but the one that caught my eye at Astoria. Looks lush!

W had dinner at station 2/3 I guess and it was delish. For only 250 pesos you get to have pasta, curry, tuna, shrimp, chicken, spring rolls, crabs, mussles and more. Not bad. Inclusive of unlimited drink.

And so after dinner we walk around more
I just love taking pictures..

And some frogs.
I'm still thinking.. are these real??

So we called it a night. I had Starbucks before heading back to our villa.
The next day was all helmet diving and island hopping and beach stuff.

Im starting to miss the white powdery sand :)

Don Vito : Gelato

I am not sure if I have tasted Gelato in my entire life. But if I am to define it, anything served cold based on cream with toppings is ice cream. Oh yeah wait... gelato IS ice cream. Only Italian and yes, this is what I found as we were walking.

Don Vito (which by the way reminds me of the God Father movie)

On the other end of the restaurant, the gelato place is located.

for 100 php you get 2 scoops.

Really tempting to taste one of each.

I had Ferrero and Cheesecake

You can taste Ferrero Rocher bits and the cheesecake is delectable. The sweetness of the chocolate with the hint of saltiness from the cheesecake.

I think I should have gotten popcorn too =))

And the food trip continous!

Boracay Day 1

I have been away for days now due to vacation and work. As promised here is my Day 1.

Feb 7-10 was our scheduled Boracay trip and I had a challenge for myself to be on a budget. So I hope this will be helpful to anyone who will be going to Boracay for the 1st time or something with extreme budget.

1) Schedule your trip way ahead. If you can get discounted tickets months ahead your trip the better. You can go as low as 1,000php for a round trip ticket. Mine costs 1,300 for round trip air fare.

2) Research for villas that offer cheap or reasonable price for lodging. I suggest you get accomodation at the back of the beach and not those infront of the beach. We got our accomodation for 4 days 3 nights for 2,500php. Sweet right? The room is huge and can fit like around 6 people or so.

3) Food and water can be your no. 1 expense. That's why I suggested no. 2 in accomodation. The thing is, there are alot of restaurants at the beach front and you might spend around 100-300 pesos per meal. I only spent 100 pesos the whole day for a lunch merienda and dinner. How? There were lots of carinderia and 25php -35php was already a full meal. I honestly think the restaurants at the beach front is really for tourists. IMHO.

4) If you plan water activities, it is best that you have a deal early morning when prices are really cheap. Then haggle haggle haggle. I was doing my early morning walk when the usual "mam activities??" It felt like Greenhills! I spotted one man who gave me a really low price and even lives near the villa we are staying at. But remember these people make money out of being a tourist guide. so please be reasonable enough. :) And yes don't pretend you have lots or money to burn.

5) Seafood is expensive in Boracay. If you are going to take a plane going to Boracay, I suggest get off Kalibo ( yeah you need to ride for another hour and a half which is a downside) since seafood is really cheap and being sold infront of the airport. Crabs are being sold 250 per kilo. So imagine if you were able to buy lobsters and crab at the market before heading to and from Boracay.

Anyhoo going back, our flight was around past 5 and we were at NAIA terminal 3 at around 4am.

Upon arriving at the Caticlan Airport we signed up and had stubs for tricycle and paid environmental fees. The tricycle is 100 pesos per trip (not per person). I will be posting the complete damage on my last post.
After getting our baggages, we went to the tricycle terminal to reach Jetty port.

We took the ferry and paid 75 pesos for the terminal and fare. It was a 15 minute ride to Boracay Island. After getting off the ferry we rode another tricycle going to our villa which is about 15 mins from the terminal to the villa. Since we arrived really early, we had our bags left and went around the back and front beach.

Time was really slow, we were so exhausted especially me straight from work without any sleep. We waited for few more hours outside the villa and said that we would check in early and just pay additional 300php for the 3 hours before checkin. Since 2pm is the check in time imagine how slow time was and I was really dead tired.

After getting the room sorted out I slept and it was the longest sleep ever! Sleeping at 11am and waking up 1am and I felt recharged.

In the afternoon, we went to the beach again and just waited until the sun goes down. Checked out some food along the beach which seems to be very alive at night. Music and tourists pops out at night.

Seafood everywhere! Expensive lobsters.

Bars getting ready for the night.

I am not much of a fan of partying in a beach setting. Or getting drunk even. I just like having my toes on the sand and watch the waves. It's more relaxing.

Until I spotted this. We were just walking from station 2 to station 3.

What I had next...

Jet Burger

I was about to blog our Boracay getaway first, however its going to be a long long post. So I shall continue with what we ate back in Manila.

BB and I are really burger and pizza junkies. Always in a search of new places , this time its different. The place found us. It all started when we were leaving the house and I opened the gate and saw a piece of paper with "Jet" on it with pictures of burgers. It is located in Don Antonio just a 5 minutes away from the house. Located infront of Jetti Oil Station and the vulcanizing shop, I got their menu and seems reasonable to me.  So my Saturdays with BB  ended up on another burger joint.

Top half of their menu

The place is really comfy and it gives you that "around the neighborhood feeling.
Pillows and couches on one side and lots of huge burger pictures on frames.

BB too comfortable and almost lying down while ordering.

The counter with a small flat screen tv and piled up sauces for you to choose from.

ordered a can of coke and sprite for Nur (not in picture)

I ordered Jet's Burger.

Black sesame seeds on buttered bun with huge white onions and tomato on top of a 1/3 pound medium rare beef patty sitting on a lettuce resting on another buttered bun.

SO EVIL and SO GOOD!!!

Just look at that juicy meat. *drool*

BB and Nur had single patty cheese burger.

These big guys under estimated the burger thinking that it was small . But they ended up stuffed. Not to mention having a hard time wolfing down fish and chips (165-185php), which we all shared.

Fish and Fries awesomeness!

Tartar sauce.

We spent a little over 500 pesos for 3 burgers, 2 cans of soda and a basket of fish and chips for the 3 of us. Not bad.

I love weekends :)
