RFWE: Pancit Center

Oh hai guys! Happy February! How was Valentines?  If that was the only event you may or may not have this month. Let the overrated, commercialized, flowers and chocolates month pass by. We all know that everyday should be valentines day. That means may it be with your special ones, family or pets and the list goes on.. and most probably yourself.

J took me on a spa date last November at Ace Water Spa in Pasig. I can still remember how HORRIBLE the traffic was (as if there isn't a place in Manila without any jam) going to Shaw. the taxi fare almost reached 300 pesos and I was on the road for about 2 hours.

I won't go into details with how the spa went as it pretty much wrinkled my fingers and toes. It was a great experience and the scented pools really relaxes your muscles.

After our spa stint, we went to Pansit Center. It was J who told me that this place has been featured on one of the programs on tv and I understand why. It is like travelling from Luzon to Visayas to Mindanao!  Located at Pioneer St. corner Shaw Blvd, Kapitolyo in Pasig, Pancit Center will definitely fill you with different pansit specialties from the Philippines.

The place is quite small and will only fit about 10 people inside.

Here is the Pansit Map of the Philippines. If only I can taste everything!

J ordered us Pansit Bato with dinuguan which is Bicol's specialty. I'm like "What's the Bato (stone in english) here?" Yun pala, it was the noodles. It originated in Bato, Camarines Sur.

I do not eat dinuguan. But this one was an exception!
Everything went well together and it is a must try!!!

 BBQ

I ordered Binalot na adobo and longanissa with egg and tomato.
I just felt breakfassy on a dinner.

Baon sa Dahon series

If ever you are around Pasig/Shaw, don't forget to drop by Pancit Center.
By the way, they are selling sweet delicacies from provinces as well. It is where I was able to taste "Tiyatug" in Maranao or what they call Lokot-Lokot in Zamboanga which I bought for 150 pesos.

Monthsary Birthday : The Buffet

Hi Guys! How's it going? I have to make this usual "excuse" that I was going to do a lot of posts during December. But then the internet was not THAT cooperative and I had to have DSL installed and life got in the way and so on and so forth. I'll be quick with this post because I still have A LOT to post and I promised myself that I am going to work on this to make sure that I do not miss anything before I start being compulsive and unpredictable again in my life.

Every 25th my family celebrates Michaela's "birth date monthsary". Well, she's turning 1 this February and I can't wait! Why do babies grow up so fast? Anyhoo, my SIL (Sister-In-Law) purchased The Buffet discount in Metro Deal to celebrate the 9th birth date month of Michaela.

The Buffet used to be a car gallery - turned call center - turned buffet. The place is quite spacious which is great for parties and other events. With their promo, a little above 400 pesos you get a vast selection of Asian and Western cuisine. Name it, they probably might have it.  I believe you'll get your money's worth :) . I wouldn't say that everything is totally flavorful though as there are some hits and misses.

I only took pictures of what i have on my plate. But I promise you they almost have everything! Japanese, dimsum, Korean, Pasta, Pizza, steak, pastries, chocolate fountain, crepes and more!

My first plate : Jap chae, tempura, baked oysters, maki

Medium rare steak with tereyaki sauce

Spicy bulgogi (beef and pork) fresh lumpia, tomato bruschetta , tuna in cream sauce

Cupcake, brownies, cream puff, eclairs, chocolate truffles

Mango crepe with chocolate syrup

I also had pumpkin soup but it was quite salty.

Check out The Buffet website for more details.

Random Food We Eat: Fried Oreos

Hi Guys! So this post is actually short and sweet which sat on my post list 5 months ago and never been published. I still have a couple of entries to share with you guys before this year ends. So, months ago, what has been happening is"I think, I cook". Wanting dessert, I made Fried Oreos.

It's pretty quick and simple to make. Although, too much consumption will result to sugar rush. I can only have one opposed to the multiple oreo cookies I can put in my mouth in one sitting. Not a pretty picture tho.

But hey, here's how to make it. Enjoy! :)

What you need:

Pancake mix
eggs
Water or Milk
Oreo Cookies
Oil

For the toppings (to get that hyper feeling):

Your choice of ice cream
Your choice of sauce

What to do:

Beat eggs and throw in the pancake mix. Once you get the dough texture, add some milk or water but not too much. Just enough to make a very thick consistency batter.

Heat oil in a pot. Make sure to have the heat in low to medium. This will make the heat just right and won't give that burnt effect.

Drop a cookie in the batter, and using a spoon scoop the cookie out and drop in the pot. The oreo's will float once the batter is cooked. Since it cooks very fast, make sure to check each sides and not burn them.

Place on paper towel to drain excess oil.

Arrange, top with your favorite ice cream and drizzle with your favorite sauce/syrup.

Enjoy! Drink lot's of water after! :)

RFWE: Hiatus and Churros

O Hai Guys! I just realized that I do have a blog last night and I was like "I have to blog!" I'm not really THAT busy these past few months but I was really lazy. There is always that time of the year, where you just want to stay at home and do nothing for at least a month. Time does fly extremely fast and people I know gets into another phase in life.. if you know what I mean. All I think about is that I wanted to do something different this year and next year and the following years.

This year is pretty good except for those few bumps ahead. But it's all good. This year is going to end differently. We'll we all have a story to tell but life is awesome regardless how bad it gets at times. :)

As my kitchen adventure reaches to another level, I just want to make sure that I keep a journal of it. I love to dine out but to sum it all up in a month's time its going to be quite expensive and not so practical. So I decided to experiment at home and let my "guinea pigs" a.k.a friends and family do the taste test which always ended up really good most of the time.

One afternoon I was craving for churros. I did some research and tips on how to make it and added the ingredients on my grocery list that day. Good thing is that my brother still has the remaining chocolate bar for his chocolate fountain and it was a perfect dip for my attempt of making churros. Apologies for just having 2 pictures but I will try my best to explain precisely how I made it.

What you need:

Water
Eggs
Flour
Butter
Pipe bag and "Star" tip
Oil for frying

Chocolate dip:

Milk
Chocolate

What to do:

I have a cup of water and half cup of butter in a sauce pan which I bring to a boil. I made sure that the butter is melted and lower the heat.I in the flour and turn off the heat and mix the batter until it turns into a dough. I leave it to cool down a bit. After which, I crack an egg and mix it with the dough. You don't want to have the dough really hot and drop the egg and not mix it quickly because it might cook the egg or something. Mix mix mix constantly! It will turn out like a thick paste. I drop another egg and continue to mix. I leave it to rest and cool down for a few more minutes.

Prepare a pan with oil (good enough for deep frying) and have it on low-medium heat. Make sure that the oil is hot enough. You can test it by having a small ball of batter you made and dropping it to the pan.Once it bubbles after dropping then it means it's good for frying. Do not turn the heat high then low, because it will ruin your first batch because the oil is too hot and of course burn it. What I learned from frying is that the fire should be on low-medium only. In that way, the heat is even and the food you are going to drop in the oil won't easily get burned, thus the golden brown color can be achieved.

Next is stuff the batter in the pastry bag and squeeze the amount of batter desired in the pan. Once it floats and turns slightly golden brown then it means it is cooked. Place the churros in a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

For the chocolate dip, I just melted the chocolate in the pan (or you can do it in a microwave) and added milk and that's it!

No need to pay for a really expensive churros! It's cheap to make and serves a lot. The whole family (minus the diabetic ones) can really enjoy at home.

I have more posts to come. So..

Happy Eating!
